Drink 2010 – 2014

Because of the vintage conditions, in 2008 half of the Pinot crop was declassified into a second label: “1912.” The 2008 1912 Pinot Noir has a pale ruby color and pretty raspberry and rose aromas with whiffs of underbrush and mace. Medium bodied, there’s plenty of juicy flesh supported by lively acidity and chewy tannins. The finish is long and fruity. Drink it now to 2014.

Fruity and friendly, this charming Pinot displays red cherry, floral and subtle spicy oak characters on the nose. The palate is juicy and supple with soft texture and fine tannins. A well rounded and very pleasing Pinot. At its best: now to 2012. Four stars.

Last but not least, this is the sole pinot noir to make the grade for this tasting. It’s also the only South Island wine in this top 10 line-up, which is hardly surprising, given that most red grapes need far more warmth than New Zealand’s south can offer. This is a light bodied red with cherry flavours and a silky finish.

Drink 2010 – 2016

The 2007 Pinot Noir displays a bright medium ruby-purple color and ripe raspberry, pomegranate and warm cranberry notes plus some loam, pepper, grated nutmeg and anise. A floral character emerges after a few minutes. A solid backbone of grainy tannins and a vibrant acid structure lead to a medium bodied palate and lengthy finish with lingering spice notes. Drink it now to 2016.

Drink 2010 – 2016

Pale to medium ruby colored, the 2006 Pinot Noir One by One gives intense red cherry, red flower and red currant aromas with nuances of fallen leaves, tree bark and a touch of cinnamon stick. Medium bodied, there’s a medium level of fine grained tannins and crisp acid supporting the generous red berry and spice flavors, finishing long. It’s a beautiful glass now though it has the capacity to develop over the next 4-6 years.

The 2006 Pinot Noir has a medium ruby color and lovely delicate, floral/violet aromas over red cherry, raspberry and a touch of forest floor. Medium bodied, crisp and rich in the mouth, there’s a medium level of silky tannins texturing the well fleshed mid-palate and caressing the long finish. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2015
