This is a very good example of what was, for some, a challenging vintage. It is an elegant, taut Pinot Noir with that desirable quality - subtle power. Red cherry, wild herb and subtle spice flavours offer a flavour profile that I sometimes find in good young burgundy. I like the moderately tannic structure which offers hope for future development

Lindis River Pinot Noir
The Lindis River is located in Central Otago, New Zealand. The region is well known for its rich gold mining history that lasted several decades in the 19th century.
Lindis River Vineyard is situated in the Ardgour Valley, 10 km South of Tarras, 5 km North of Bendigo and, at a short distance from the Lindis River confluence with the Clutha river, at Maori Point.
Lindis River vineyard was the first to be established in the Ardgour Valley, in 2000. The land was once part of the Ardgour Sheep Station and was grazed for generations. As a remnant of those old days, a hundred year old wool shed still stands on valley floor part of the property. It was converted into a modern house in 2002, when it became our residence.

Lindis River "One by One"
When we planted our vineyard in 2000 we decided to create a "little Burgundy" within the vineyard. Vines in one small block were planted one metre apart with one metre wide rows. Everything in there needs to be done by hand, literally "one by one", and of course, as with the rest of our vineyard, organic practices are employed. In 2006 we made a small batch from these grapes and aged the wine in three barrels for 18 months. The extra time allowed all components to integrate fully. The result is a highly varietal wine which impresses with its elegance and balance, rather than simple fruit flavours and toasty oak components. The limited amount of Lindis River "One by One" will only be made available to the restaurant trade and directly to the public through our website.
